Ireland AM visit Athlone

Alan Hughes and Chef Edward Hayden from Ireland AM recently visited Athlone to explore and discover hidden gems with Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.

First up was an action-packed visit to Baysports for a fun filled morning of water activities on the award-winning floating slides, rockers and climbing challenges. They met Richie O’Hara who spoke of the popularity of the park for both adults and kids and the new addition of the Junior waterpark to accommodate families with younger kids.

Next up, Alan and Edward relaxed and recharged with a fabulous Afternoon Tea at Hodson Bay Hotel. This is the ultimate treat and allows you to indulge with beautifully presented miniature treats and freshly made sandwiches.  Pre-booking in advance is required and you can book via the reservations office at Hodson Bay by phone or email. Vegan, vegetarian & coeliac afternoon tea offerings are also available, let them know when booking.

No visit to Athlone is complete without a trip to Athlone Castle and that’s where Alan visited next.  This family friendly tourist attraction allows you to explore the intriguing local history. Climb the steps to the castle keep and take in the views across the River Shannon.
