Celebrating Irish Language and Culture in Athlone

This March, the vibrant spirit of the Irish language comes alive in Athlone as Seachtain na Gaeilge brings a dynamic programme of events to the community. Organised locally with the support of Conradh na Gaeilge, the week celebrates culture, connection and the everyday use of Gaeilge in a welcoming and inclusive way.

The programme begins on March 5th with a Céilí Workshop at Garrycastle GAA Club at 8.30pm. Whether you are a seasoned dancer or taking your first steps, this energetic session promises great music, movement and plenty of laughter. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet others while enjoying a treasured part of Irish tradition.

On March 11th, head to Leabharlann Bhaile Átha Luain for Lá na gCiorcal from 10am to 12pm. This relaxed morning gathering invites Irish speakers of all levels to come together for conversation and connection. With a friendly atmosphere and a shared love of the language, it is the perfect space to practise your cúpla focal.

The celebrations continue on March 12th with an Oíche Oscailte at The Snug at 8.30pm. Expect an open night filled with craic agus ceol, storytelling and spontaneous moments that capture the heart of Irish culture.

Taking place in the heart of Athlone, this year’s events highlight the power of language to bring people together. Join the celebration, support the community and experience the richness of Gaeilge for yourself.
