View of the Luan Gallery from across the river Shannon at night.

Stroll across the bridge in Athlone and nestling on the right-hand bank you’ll find the stunning Luan Gallery.

A showcase for the most interesting artists from the midlands, Ireland and abroad, the building itself is a modern work of art in its own right.

Luan Gallery is the municipal visual art gallery for County Westmeath, located in Athlone’s Cultural Quarter overlooking the River Shannon beside Athlone Castle, Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church and the pedestrian bridge. Stroll across the bridge in Athlone and you’ll find this striking contemporary gallery nestled on the right bank.

The building itself is a modern work of art with floor-to-ceiling windows offering uninterrupted views across the Shannon, creating a bright, open space where artworks can truly breathe. It showcases an eclectic programme of contemporary art from painting and sculpture to textiles, featuring leading artists from the Midlands, Ireland and further afield.

Luan Gallery is a welcoming space that encourages conversation, connection and learning. It works closely with artists, schools, local communities and cultural organisations to make art accessible, engaging and relevant. Entry is free and guided tours are also free on request. Exhibitions change every two months so there is always something new to discover.
