The Viking River Fest returns in 2025, bringing history, adventure, and entertainment to Athlone over the August Bank Holiday weekend. After the huge success of the 2024 festival, we’re back with even more excitement.
This event transforms Athlone’s riverside into a bustling hub of culture and fun. Whether you love history, live music, or great food, there’s something for everyone.
A Celebration of Viking Heritage
The festival embraces Athlone’s Viking past, creating a lively and immersive experience. Expect:
- Viking villages with live reenactments
- Water safety demonstrations

- A lively food & craft market
- Music, storytelling, and entertainment
We’re also working with Féile na Sionainne, ensuring a weekend filled with Irish music and culture.

The 2024 festival welcomed visitors from across Ireland and beyond. In 2025, we’re making it even better! Expect more events, bigger performances, and extra surprises. A full schedule will be announced in early summer.
