Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park (pronounced “Doon na Shee”), meaning “fort of the fairies,” is an award-winning destination set within 27 acres of stunning parkland in the heart of Ireland, just 15 minutes from Athlone. Blending natural beauty with history, culture, and family-friendly activities, the park offers a rich and memorable experience for visitors of all ages.
The park features a wide range of recreational, educational, and cultural attractions. Visitors can enjoy peaceful walking trails, explore the enchanting Fairy Island, discover the unique turlough—a seasonal vanishing lake—or relax in the beautifully designed Sensory Garden. Younger visitors can enjoy the playgrounds and the charming Fur-ever Friends Farm, home to rescued animals.
Along the Heritage Trail, visitors are invited to step back in time and experience reconstructed historical sites that bring rural life to life. Highlights include a traditional bothán (mud cabin), a fisherman’s cottage, a working forge, a ring fort, and a 19th-century farmhouse. The Rural Museum and Vintage Museum house authentic agricultural tools and machinery, offering insight into Ireland’s farming heritage.
At Teach Cheoil, the Scéal Exhibition celebrates Irish music and folklore, while the Genealogy Centre provides an opportunity to trace Westmeath roots.
Throughout the park, visitors will also encounter unique features and artworks, including the striking Lough Statue—honouring the god of sun and harvest and featuring a 4,000-year-old bog oak spear—the Gráinne Óg sculpture by Ann Meldon Hugh, and “Art in the Park” installations created by local students. Additional points of interest include a traditional turf stack, a Neolithic dolmen, and free-roaming hens and ducks that add to the park’s charm.
With welcoming tea rooms and a wide variety of attractions, Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park offers a full day of discovery, relaxation, and enjoyment.
Visitors are warmly invited to come and explore.
